When I first got my positive pregnancy test I was 5 weeks late, that day I rang the midwife place and they said judging by my last period I'd be around 9 weeks which was 2 weeks ago but still haven't had a dating scan, my midwife came round the other day and said by my last period I'd only be around 7/8 weeks pregnant so I'm abit confused... How do they work out how many weeks you are? I know they had weeks on but how many? Bare in mind when she was telling me I was 7/8 weeks pregnant my period was 7 weeks late

your best waiting until your dating scan as they go by the sonographer not your last menstrual period, due to ovulation/implantation as no one can tell when that would of happened. The early scan gives them the best dates possible. They don't go by my last menstrual period (i know my dates to) they go four days later to when the scan showed on my 12 weeks. I questioned it! but No even if you know your exact dates, they go by the scan. You can type your LMP in the NHS website or type in google when am I due and it will give you your date, but may change after scan. x

Doctors will go by the date of your last period. You should have a dating scan at 12 weeks to confirm

I wouldn't worry about it much. They only use LMP until the scan and then use the measurements from the scan to calculate. When was your last period? How long are you cycle's? There's calculators online to find out your estimated due date. I'm sure the midwife is as accurate as she could be though. She wouldn't be making mistakes on that kind of thing.

@ttcrainbowbaby, my last period was 3rd August until the 6th (3 days is normal for me) and my cycle is 28 days, and I'm only asking because with my son I knew the day of conception and the day of my last period and worked it out and when I got to the scan they showed the same dates that I had worked out

@sophgreenx oookaaay.... seems she is wrong. there's no way your lesson than 11 weeks. my last period was he 6h of August and I have longer cycles and I'm 10+5 today.
I'm pretty sure she was right he first time...

This is what I got based on your dates. I'd defo give the midwife a call and ask why she changed your date. Maybe there's other deciding factors I don't know about. But I'd say you were over a 11 weeks.

It was a different women each time, the women on the phone told me they wanted me in for a scan asap as I'm 9 weeks and apparently they like doing dating scans between 8-10 weeks but the midwife who came to me said I was only 7/8 weeks and that I'd have to wait a few more weeks for a scan because apparently the dating scan isn't done until 11-13 weeks so I'm so confused haha @ttcrainbowbaby , to be completely honest the midwife I had now I had with my last pregnancy and although she was nice she wasn't helpful at all x

@sophgreenx That's what makes it confusing for them... Different midwives each time. Either way they pushed you back 3-4 weeks! That's a lot! I would defo get in contact. Certain things need to be tested a certain times and if they're way off with the dates then you might end up missing out. Even with dating scans there wouldn't be that big a difference!

my gp went by the date of my lmp +2 weeks so if u were 5 weeks late ud be 7 weeks pregnant. i went with that with my son and when they scanned me i was a day in front of what me and my gp thought. also my midwife agreed with my dates x
