Ok so I haven't been updating here the past few weeks. I am a single mom of 1-gorgeous 16 yr old boy and have my 2nd on the way due Dec 22. I have studied registered medical assistant for the past yr and a half and had started my externship/clinicals 3 wks ago.
I was attempting to kick butt and take names later these last few weeks only to get my own kicked by the infamous "GDM" gestational diabetes mellitus. It was causing me to have hypo and hyper symptoms and I wasn't paying attention to the "S/S" signs and symptoms.
I was sweating profusely while feeling ok, hazy, blurry vision, extreme thirst and urination, confusion and last but not least "hypertension" high blood pressures. The confusion was causing issues with me trying to care for patients in the clinic and causing me to make many minor mistakes, could have been major in the healthcare field if I hadn't been overseen by many other med assts and an LPN all supervising me as a student.
So as suggested by my instructor, an RN for the last 30 yrs, she suggested I take a leave of absence til after my baby boy Xaxton is born. At first, I felt like I was failing and giving up, but after a few days of mulling it all over in my head and heart I know I haven't given up. I've simply put my life and Xaxton's life first.
I'm not quitting, I'm not giving up, I will go back January 10th and finish my 125 hrs of clinicals and in March (as previously scheduled) I will walk across that stage at graduation with my head held high knowing I did my best.
So in short I will have more time to be an active member here and to pay attention to my health and my pregnancy for the next 9 wks. If anyone finds any good reading on gestational diabetes, diabetic meal planning, or simply some amazeballs diabetic recipes please send them my way.
Prayers are appreciated.
