My baby is 2mo EBF and today we went for his well check. The doctor is concerned about his weight because at one month he weighed about 9lbs. Now he is 10.6lbs. According to his sheet he's only 6%. I had him full term at 40weeks via c section he was born weighing 8.4lbs. I'm concerned because I didn't want to have to supplement, but now I don't think I have a choice. I know I have enough supply. Just looking for any advice? We go back in a month to see how he's progressing.
As long as their gaining a 1/2oz-1oz a week their fine. My daughter was always gaining a 1/2oz a wk and the doctors kept telling me she wasn't gaining enough. I switched doctors and they tell me she's perfect she's jus going to be petite.
You have to make sure they're comparing and using charts for breast fed babies. I'd keep track of when you nurse your baby and dirty diapers for a while. Supplementing can become a slippery slope. You supplement and eventually you need to more and more. If the doctor did not straight out say you have to supplement, I wouldn't.
@kirt, that makes me feel a little better. I know I'm not starving my son just surprised he hasn't gained much .
My baby is right around the same lines weight wise as yours and my doctor wasn't concerned.
Yeah I was reading that they should gain about 2 pounds per month the first few months. He was 8.4 went down to 7.1 then back up to 9 and now 10.6. So I think I better try mixing breast milk with formula I don't want him to be underweight. I'm just shocked that he hasn't gained enough weight.
My son weighed 8lbs 2oz when he was born. I had him at 40 weeks. At his 2 month check up he weighed 13lbs 4oz.
