Okay so I have a little situation! After coming home from the hospital our son is constantly fussy because how much he's gotten poked with the needles and all that! He is not the same. Before he was so calm and just would cry when he's hungry. But the thing that bothers me is that they gave my son a pacifier and now he constantly wants it. And I can't tell if he's hungry or if he wants the pacifier. I didn't want to give him a pacifier till he was at least 2-3 months old. So we would constantly feed him because we didn't know what he was about but it's the pacifier he wants. What do you guys think about this? Do you think a new born should have a pacifier right now? Or should he stick to just bottle feeding till he's a little older? Idk what to do

Just says that babies are a lot more wakeful after the first two weeks. I noticed this with my baby too, she's a lot more fussy now compared to her newborn days

I did the same with my little one when she was born. And the paci soothes her and helps her stay asleep. I can tell if she's hungry if it doesn't keep her calm and then I try to feed her. I would only wake your baby up every 2-3 hrs if their weight seems to be going down, or if they aren't pooping or peeping like they should. Mine sleeps 4-5 hrs at a time and no way in hell am I gna wake her up just to feed her. If she was getting a rash from her soiled diapers I would change her before she wakes up, but nothing yet. She's happy, peeing and pooping almost every diaper. She eats 3-4 oz when she wakes up, she's good. Plus I have to supplement with formula along with my breast milk because my milk supply is still a little low. It's all a learning curve, and every baby is different 👌🏼

I think you can't really go back now. I made it clear to every person at the hospital and even my newborn photographer, no pacifiers and no bottles At ALL because I'm breastfeeding. The lactation consultant said it's fine to introduce pacifiers and bottles after a month. That's just to help your milk supply come in. Not sure if you are breastfeeding? Either way, he will let you know when he is hungry. And in the newborn stage you have to make sure they eat at least Every 2-3 hours, even if you have to wake them up to eat.

Your baby will let u know when hungry cause the pacifier won't keep him calm...and they say it's best not to give pacifiers to breastfed babies....I love pacifiers they help so much! And poor lil guy he probably is traumatized from the hospital and pokes..my son was! He was hospitalized at 2 months for 2 weeks it was awful..he'll be back to his self in no time 🙂

well they say not to give a paci right away if you're breastfeeding so they don't get confused but if you're bottle feeding there is nothing to worry about. I would pay attention to the cries if they don't get better with feeding changing or holding then there usually is something else going on. my first was in the nicu for a month and was poked so much they had to do a pic line. they usually act up for at least a week after they come home then go back to normal. she's been in and out of the hospital so much that I'm pretty familiar with all this. things will go back to normal but if they don't go see the pediatrician

@michelle2220, oh okay thank you so much. I'm a #FTM and just need some feed back on this situation because I read that it's not good to give a new born a pacifier yet and all that but if it helps to keep him calm then I'm going to stick with it! It's just frustrating a lil because he was so calm and quiet before getting admitted to the hospital. I think he's just dramatized from all the pokes and all that

my first had a paci right away and it was the best thing bc she was in the nicu. I always knew when she wanted a bottle vs paci. you'll know bc baby will spit out the paci if there is no milk coming out
