I live in a rather small town in Missouri and I'm expecting my first child. My boyfriend and I met about a month after I found out about my pregnancy. The biological father walked out the same day that I found out. I'm having problems deciding what to do after I have my baby. my boyfriend and I don't live together as of right now but we live right next door (literally) to each other and he wants to be put on the birth certificate as her dad. however I don't know if I can afford to live in my apartment after she's born without drawing tanif. but if he on the birth certificate then I can't draw tanif. I also can't find anywhere that's hiring and I want to spend the first 6months just taking care of her. What do y'all suggest?

The father still has rights to be put on the BC but with rights come responsibility. I saw take the dad to court for child support

could you maybe come to an agreement to wait to have him added as the legal father? that way you can apply for financial support? and then once you're back at work and better off financially he could legally adopt her? i don't think you have to be married to do that.

In most states you do have to be married to revoke parental rights so that your SO can legally adopt unless BD is willing to sign his rights away and even then it is up to the courts

Not sure about there but in IN/KY my sperm donor had to sign that he was the dad and had to sign a paper stating he understood his rights since we were not married.

he has said that he would be more than willing to sign away his rights because he wants nothing to do with the baby or anything. He has agreed that if I don't list him on the bc or if I list someone else as the father he will not try to persue custody or anything.

I would have him sign his rights off do he can't come back and get a paternity test and make a mess of things. sorry he doesn't want anything to do with your baby but maybe it's best he backs away since he obviously doesn't want to be mature enough to take part
