How do you know if your having real contractions? My stomach keeps tightening up and one side of my back hurts.

If they intensify at all, if you're able to time them and they're coming in intervals, and if they get closer together then they're real not false. I have false contractions ALL the time. They feel real, but they taper off and end up going away. They're not Braxton hicks, but not real labor either.

Real contractions don't always hurt, mine never did. 27 hours of labor and slept through most of it. Contractions are consistent and get closer together as labor progresses.
