So I really wanted to breastfeed exclusively, but I'm just not making enough milk to keep my LO satisfied, and I've been having to supplement with formula... but only like 2-4 ounces a day. I am considering trying something to boost my supply. I've heard of drink mixes, teas, oatmeal, smoothies, cookies, fenugreek, and as the other mamas have experienced this know, the list goes on. Which of these have worked best for other moms out there? How do I know if they're safe?

What makes you think you're not producing enough?

I use lactation smoothies or chocolate abuelita con ruda. helped my supply :)

@yungbae, she isn't always satisfied, even after taking both sides twice. I have even tried pumping some when she's less hungry but it's still not quite enough. A little bit of formula usually does the trick.

@jacey3, what is chocolate abuelita con ruda? I hadn't heard of this one

Mexican hot chocolate and ruda is an herb you can grow or by. my MIL makes it for me. it tastes delicious. I saw an increase in about 3 days. I pump and feed him directly also. I still use formula but not as often as I was before.

The lactation cookies helped me but what I've noticed has helped the most is making sure I ate A LOT and drank lots of water. Whenever I would have a day or 2 where I'd forget to eat or drink a lot of water, my milk supply would drastically drop.

@nikilauren, I try to make sure I drink a lot of water but I sometimes don't feel that I have the time to eat very much...like priorities, drives my poor hubby bonkers. Maybe I should try harder to make eating 3 squares a priority.
