Is your newborn in a routine yet or are feeding and sleeping schedules sporadic still?

@mommymcclung, just have patience. It only takes 24-48 hours for your body to adjust to your baby's nursing schedule. Just remember that every baby is different 😃 I can only speak from my research and my personal experiences.

I give you props momma! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I hope I'm able to do that. That's a good tip about not pumping unless he feeds. Makes sense. My body needs to know when to have that gold ready! @emilyd

@mommymcclung, I only struggled with my breasts adjusting for about a week. I woke up a few times with a blown breast or really painful breasts. I just pumped when I woke up. If you pump at times when baby isn't eating, your body will still think that baby is eating and won't adjust to baby's schedule as seamlessly. I only pump Monday nights and Tuesday mornings for when my husband watches Finn on Tuesday afternoons. I also sometimes use a manual pump bc my 5 year old niece likes to give him bottles. This happens maybe once or twice every two weeks though. Finn's schedule is:

12 am - 7 am sleeping, 7 am dreamfeed, 7 am - 9 am sleeping, 9 am - 11 am feed/playtime, 11 am - 1 pm nap, 1 pm - 2 pm feed/playtime, 2 pm - 6 pm nap, 6 pm - 8 pm feed/playtime, 8 pm - 10 pm nap, 10:30 pm bath time/bedtime routine, 11:30 pm start nursing to sleep. He always falls asleep at exactly 12 am 😃

@kambam, the first 6 weeks of my sons life we had to exclusively pump because he wouldn't latch and the pumping sessions every 2-3 hrs was killer. I'm not ready to start pumping at night again. I hope you are right!! Ha

@emilyd, oh my goodness! 8-9 hrs with no breastfeeding? Do you have to pump or anything? I wake up after 4 hrs and I'm laying in a puddle from leaking 😂😂 sounds like an amazing schedule though!

@mommymcclung right? pumping middle of the night sucks because you cant sleep through it. keeps you awake 😠 better than rocks I guess. i think you'll be safe for a while.

@mommymcclung, yep! My little guy is EBF. He sleeps 8-9 hours at night, takes 3 naps during the day (2 short, 1 long), and is awake for up to 3 hours at a time. It took a while for my breasts to adjust to his schedule, but now I barely leak at all unless he sleeps a little too long for his 7 am dreamfeed or his 2 pm nap.

@kambam, I am nervous for the day that my guy sleeps through the night and I wake up with boobs that hurt really bad!! Im not going to want to wake up to pump but I also don't want to lose my milk supply. My little guy is 9 weeks old and hasn't started sleeping longer than 4 hrs at a time and my boobs hurt just from that!

@mommyof1boyy, I feel you there about mixing up night and day! When my little one first came home from the hospital he had them confused too. I'm not too focused on a schedule either. I feed on demand and such. I just notice my 9 week old is starting to create his own schedule and it amazes me!

@emilyd, that's awesome! Just curious, did you breastfeed?

took mine about a month to have a sort of schedule. but I think for EBF babies its unrealistic that they sleep through the night. max time asleep is 3 or 4hrs. and its good otherwise my boobs would explode

when my son was a newborn, I never focused on a sleeping schedule, I focused on my son not mixing night and day up and after he figured that out I put him on a schedule at like 4 months and since then its been the same and he's Now 17 months old
