My baby is 3 weeks old today and we put a tablespoon of cereal in a bottle of breast milk to see if it'll help her sleep longer at night. Just seems like she doesn't stay full for very long just off breast milk and I don't want to supplement with formula. Anyone else do this? Did it seem to help?

I think it's early for cereal too. Plus I read that you shouldn't put cereal in a bottle anyway cuz babies can aspirate it and choke really bad. Just thought it was weird people (and I mean older people that are like 40/50 with grown kids) are suggesting mixing breast milk and cereal and Karo syrup. I've never heard of that. I'm really concerned about karo syrup. Seems dangerous to give that to a three week old since it's SUPER thick. I'm fine with waking up however often to nurse her. I know with her being EBF she's gonna eat often. And she cosleeps with me so I mean she usually sleeps for 3-4 hours at a time anyways. Plus my husband isn't the one getting up with her multiple times a night. But when I tried to voice my concerns to him he just kinda blew them off. Mind you, this is his first baby, my second. I didn't start giving food to my oldest til she was 4 months old and it was stuff like mashed avocado or banana, soft stuff

Both of mine woke up every 1.5 hrs at that age to nurse, breastmilk digests faster so it's completely normal. It's very early for cereal

If your baby is happy and gaining weight there's nothing to worry about! Some babies eat more some babies eat less.

I wouldnt be concerned. I think, I could be wrong, what your doctor meant was to wake your baby up every two hours to eat to make sure she reaches birth weight. Thats what my dr told me at first. Now that your baby is at birth weight you dont need to do that. So baby can just eat on demand and sleep longer is shes able to. My girl is 2 months and sometimes wakes up every 2-3 hours to eat. Its completely normal. I know VERY few babies that sleep any longer. ☺️

she probably has reflux. but a baby that young will sleep however long they want. you can force it.

But her pediatrician didn't seem concerned about her spitting up since she's still gaining weight

Her pediatrician told me last week at her 2 week check up since she's already passed her birth weight that we can start letting her sleep longer at night, but she wakes up every 2 hours and she spits up half of what she takes in. I know I've heard a little bit of cereal mixed in can help with spit up. Idk. My husband did it cuz that's what people were telling him to do. I don't mind waking up to breastfeed her. Just worries me that she spits up as much as she does. Makes me worry she isn't getting as much as she should if she's spitting up half of it right after she eats. @mommyof1boyy @yourmodernmomma

I agree that is way too early for solids and too young to sleep long. Its recommended to wait at least 6 months unless a ped recommends it. My baby also woke up every 2 hours to eat.

3 weeks is super young to want her to sleep longer at night, babies that young still wake up every three to four hours to eat. your breast milk is enough, no need for the cereal, exoecielly that young, could hurt her bowels. I did it with my son at 4 months old.

I heard of doing it. Our parents did it but they say not to put in the bottle. That part they said was bad. (I forget why but if you look it up there is a reason) I have a 4 month old and we haven't started any foods yet. Hopefully at the doctors visit we could talk about it.

The lactation consultant here at the hospital suggest I supplement my breast milk with formula to help her gain weight being that she's a preemie 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I'm not against formula at all just little sad that my milk doesn't seem to be enough for her.
