My sister used them on her toddler and he rarely wet through at night. You could always lay down one of those pads under the sheet kind of like the things a puppy pees on.

no. I didn't put anything on the mattress besides the sheet. my daughter rarely ever wetted the bed. make sure you use absorbant inserts and double up if need be.
