When my daughter would want something she couldn't have I would tell her "No you can't have this (Reasoning) and then when the tantrum comes I either ignore it or I also throw in "do you want a spanking?" And my daughter would shake her head "no" and I would say "okay then, then stop" and she would.. and then she would go play

But you could also do time out, or ignore it sometimes, put her down for a nap...

@mdomke22, when my daughter got in that phase of hitting I would give her hand a little smack and then tell her " No no! We don't hit mommy!" With a stern voice.. yes she'll cry but don't give her attention once you discipline her.. you have to wait a few and then give her attention. Yeah it mostly likely is you're mom.. maybe you should have a talk with her and tell her how you feel and how it's making your daughter need attention more after not getting her way.
