4hrs is too long. You want to pump every 2-3hrs like @nicemmcha2015 said. Try massaging your breast while your pumping to ease pain or try a warm cloth, hot shower. If it continues to hurt, go see your doctor to make sure there isnt an infection.

@nicemmcha2015, @hhmariah man that's a lot! I do massage/hand express while pumping and it does help a lot. I guess I'll try pumping more often... My hope is that she will start breast feeding but she only does once a day for a few minutes.. Other times she gets too frustrated and quits

@babybowers, yes it is alot. it takes a lot of work. but that's needed to keep your supply up other wise you won't be able to keep up with her needs.

Does she have a lip tie at all? you could try the nipple shields and see if that will help her nurse. It's hard at first but you and LO will get the hang of it. Feed with a bottle and try to switch out the bottle with your breast. Just gotta keep trying and she'll get the hang of it.

@nicemmcha2015, i guess we'll try lol @hhmariah no the first few days she latched perfectly. But because of the complications of my pregnancy I stopped producing anything and so she would nurse and get nothing which made her frustrated. Once I was able to get my milk back she would do a couple sucks and then get mad and scream.. I do have a nipple shield but haven't tried it. The lactation consultant is sure she will eventually get the hang of it but it's so hard right now
