Ok, so im currently 35 weeks and my baby is weighing in at only 3 pounds and 12 ounces. I also have Gestational diabetes that has to be controlled with medicine. My doctors said that if at my next growth ultrasound he still isnt growing at a normal rate they think theyll induce me. They cant tell me why hes not growing like he should and my placenta looks good and so does his cord. But anyways I have a few questions. How does induction typically work? Will they induce me that day or schedule later and what should I expect? Will my baby go straight to the NICU or will they let me hold him if hes breathing alright? Will they keep him in the NICU just for being small? How long is a typical NICU stay for smaller babies if theres no other issues but weight? Do I need a special car seat insert to take him home? What can I expect to happen after delivery but before we're sent home. Are there extra tests they do if a baby is under 5 lbs? Answers to Any of these questions would be great. Thanks

Well with me I have diabetes and what they did they schedule my c section at 36 weeks my baby was only 4 lb 2.8 oz and she was kept in the nicu for 3 weeks but it all depends how your baby is doing while in the nicu and before you guys leave they would just check something about head and no need to take another car seat just have like rolls of blankets on the side so he wont be moveing side to side with his head and thats all i can answer for you

if they want to induce you they'll USUALLY schedule you to come into labor and delivery on a certain day and time to have a room set up and ready for induction process. as for holding baby they cant decide that until they know for sure baby's lungs etc are fully developed. the going home they may have you wait until baby is closer to 5lbs seeing as most carseats are rated 5 and up. baby's nicu stay will all depend on can baby maintain body temp, can baby feed properly, how much weight baby gains etc. theres alot of questions id say 2-4weeks

when my baby was born at 35 weeks I didn't get to hold her right away. they let dad cut the cord then she was taken to be examined. she was crying very strongly. I can't tell you much about induction I was induced after being in labor for 3 days but it wasn't bad after what I went through. I also had GD but in my case the medicine wasn't helping and she was 7lbs 6oz 5 weeks early

Your doctor could be different. My aunt had this problem with her baby too though. She went in and they said that her daughter had stopped growing at the 25 week mark. They went ahead and did a c section that day. I'm not sure why they didn't induce first. I was only like 13 so I didn't think to ask these questions back then 😂 her daughter was in nicu for 7 weeks I believe and then came home on oxygen.
