Anyone got any tips for breastfeeding.. it's only the 3rd night and it hurts.. am I doing something wrong.. thought I was following everything I've read and been told to do.
@noshinxoxo, thanks but I gave up.. did it for 4 days and even when doing it properly and it was going well. I really didn't enjoy it.. I expressed and formula fed for a while and now just formula feeding
I'll be honest, be prepared for a bit of pain for a week or so. 1. Feeding should not hurt after your milk comes in. If it hurts then baby is latching wrong. If you have sore or cracked nipple, baby is latching wrong. Get a hold of your breastfeeding consultant immediately. They'll come to your house and teach you hands on. Mine was a lifesaver. Although I've never got it as seamlessly painless as she gets it when she helps but the pure agony stopped the minute she helped. 2. When milk come sin you'll be engorged, this is your body judging how much your baby needs. Only pump a little before a feed if your flow of milk is quite harsh on baby, otherwise don't pump it will only increase the milk, just get a hot flannel or in the shower and hand massage, it will kill but it passes! 3. Don't let any of this discourage you, once it's settled the pure ease of waking up at nights pulling your baby close to you, cuddling them and feeding them with such ease is amazing. Also of course theres the nutritional benefits etc
It will hurt for the first few days Hun, keep going and you'll get through it. My lg was a pain to latch in hospital when she was born, we eventually got there and we've been going 19 weeks now :) it will get easier, I promise. Just remember that you're giving your baby the best start in life, and if you get too sore then buy some lansinoh lanolin nipple cream, it is £10 for a tube but it is sooooo good and helps a bunch. And it's so worth the money, you'll most likely only need one tube for the whole time you're breastfeeding!!! You're welcome to send me a message if you need a chat or help xx
