@housfullofgrls, yes most doctors work that way doesn't mean 37 is full term.

I also learned in med school that 37 weeks is full term, not that someone needs to be induced if they go over that amount of time.

37 weeks is technically considered full term where as u can deliver safely but waiting the additional two weeks 39 weeks ensures the babies lungs and brain are fully developed

@prettyasnisha, to most 37 is considered full term but just like you said those 2 additional weeks babies lungs and brains are still developing. So actually 39 is considered full term. A baby born at 37 weeks can be born healthy as ever but still doesn't mean it's full term

my son was born at 38 +6, if he would've been born any earlier he would've been a NICU stay due to underdeveloped lungs and kidneys

@amaperalta03, is correct ladies. This is the new terminology and it's accurate. some doctors are old school and do not go by the new terms. This always aggravated me too, because a lot can happen within those last few weeks, not to mention that your "due date" could always be off and you could be even earlier than projected, thus resulting in potential complications for baby. Pregnancy is 40 weeks long for a reason, unless medical reasons prevent you from carrying that long.

@babyjjsmommy, thank you let's help educate one another. A lot of Doctors are old school & don't bother to continue to educate themselves.
