I learned this the hard way with my son. I started out buying him Jordan's and when he started school he just wanted sneakers that looked like and lit up like police cars that cost $30. He didn't give a shit about the guy jumping on his sneakers. Which saved me a lot of money luckily, because now at 9 he gives a shit lol
