For those c section mommas (💪🏾) who couldn't eat after midnight and had the surgery scheduled for early afternoon; How did your body handle no liquids or food? I'm scheduled for 1:00PM on the 19th & my sister keeps telling me that I won't be worried about food or water, but I beg to differ and how long did it take you to pass gas? My Doctor didn't even tell me about the gas piece😓
@lost041, yeah I'm worried about staying hydrated 😩 @kayloniandkirksmommy my doctor didn't say why I couldn't, she just said don't do it 😞😓lol
I've had 3 scheduled and 1 emergency csection I know I wasn't allowed to eat after midnight but I was allowed to have small sips of liquids to stay hydrated but I also know that I got sick with all of mine. I believe I had to have a small liquid meal after each but as long as I was able to keep that down I was able to have solid foods quite frankly though I wasn't even worried bout eating till the next day. I was exhausted and to into spending the time with my kids
@godsjoi, I was allowed small amounts of water during my no eat period before the surgery. it might be your ob/gyn's preference. I promise you it won't be as scary as it sounds. I have a blood clotting disease and they failed to give me meds during surgery lol. @housfullofgrls my ob/gyn said we can't eat because it can cause vomiting.
Ohhh ☹️ @housfullofgrls @kayloniandkirksmommy yes I have a list of questions piling up. I wonder if water has the same effect and that's why I can't drink either. This sounds worse than I originally thought it would be lol. I get grumpy and feel awful when I don't eat. Lack of liquids give me horrendous headaches. Ugh
No I always throw up during labor. I'm not sure why. Don't worry you'll be fine
@godsjoi, I know the reason you can't eat before is because moving the organs around causes vomiting. I dry heaved at the end of my 2nd c section. I was really tired after mine as well because I lost almost 3 pints of blood and was in dire need of a transfusion, which wasn't given to me until the next day. I wish you luck! and any questions you have, make sure you ask! it doesn't hurt.
Oh no! @housfullofgrls that sounds awful. Was it because the pain was so bad?
Mine was an emergency c so I can't remember how long I went without eating, I also threw up all during labor so it was a while
Maybe that's the case for me and that's why my doctor didn't mention it to me. I'll have to ask when I see her on Tuesday @kayloniandkirksmommy really hoping they don't make me wait that long.
@godsjoi, no, actually. I was able to have solid food right away. after both my c sections. they were more concerned about me pooping then anything.
@kayloniandkirksmommy, did you have to pass gas first? @housfullofgrls how long did you go without food or drink? I estimate it'll be like 16 hours for me...at least.
yeah. I was being induced and my little girls heart wasn't tolerating it so they ended up doing a c section. I was allowed to have all the clear liquids I wanted afterward. just no solid food until after you fart. no it can't be a burp because the issue is it slowing down how your intestines work
you can eat....I was able to eat as soon as I was up to it. it took me a few days to poop. and they weren't too concerned about me passing gas, but that may have been because I lost blood and they were more concerned about a transfusion.
It was fine, I was too hopped up on drugs to notice my hunger. That first clear broth was life though. Only took me a few hours to pass gas, but actually pooping took almost 3 days
A whole day?!? But you can't eat or drink until after you pass gas, right? @mrsgower can it be a burp?
Oh Ok. @housfullofgrls well that makes sense then. Thanks for all of your help & being patient with me lol. First c section lol
