So I need some help. My son has an allergy/lactose intolerant to my breast milk. We tried Similac Alimentum which worked great for him but is super expensive. our doctor told us to try soy formula. I gave him a bottle and an hour later his tummy was upset and he was doing the same thing he did on the breast milk. my question is how long should I try the soy for to see if he ends up being okay on it? Should I try a couple more feedings? Should I cut it off?

our doctor said it takes at least two weeks to be able to tell how a formula truly affects a baby.

have you tried applying for WIC to help out with formula costs? Or sometimes consignment sites like VarageSale have people on there selling new and unopened formula in bulk that they no longer need for cheaper. that's where we've found Isabelle's for almost a month now.

sometimes they only react to your breast milk badly because of something in your diet. try cutting things out of your diet to see if it helps

@jesscami, my insurance will cover it with a prescription but my doctor and I are holding off to see if the soy will work before be prescribes the Alimentum, we cut dairy completely out of my diet and it still made him upset. his pediatrician said it's probably lactose intolerance/ allergy and told us to switch.

we can cover it for now. I was just trying to see how long I should I try the soy for to see if it's affecting him or not. The Alimentum helped a lot but we tried to soy today and he's having the same reaction my milk starting having
