Has anyone's baby had a "good latch" but it turned out to be shallow because the baby's mouth was small? Did it get better once they got a bit bigger?

@bonniesue, I've been wondering what is going on because I'm told his latch is good but he still squishes my nipples flat every time I feed him and it's uncomfortable still after four weeks.

My son has a tongue tie so he wasn't latching deeply. I used a nipple shield and it got better
