Anyone have a child on here who is autistic or has ADHD? (My nephew may be autistic or have adhd or both, waiting for him to get evaluated) my boyfriend and others think he's just a bad child and aren't accepting of the fact that there may be something wrong with him. My question is how did you get family and friends to understand your child ? ( I love him like he's my child)
@ceeasquared, ughhh that's how my family is my mom, sister and I clearly know something is different about him reason why he's going to get evaluated. And everyone just keeps saying his just bad or stubborn. It's so frustrating to me cause I see him as my child. And I wish people were just more sensitive to his situation
My family thought I was crazy until I had the doctors diagnosis. Then they were like oh well I guess if the doctor said it 😑
@rodriguez13, I wish people could just be more understanding
@ceeasquared, my nephew has a iep plan as well. So I'm kinda familiar with it. Just wanna know ways to get family and friends to be more understanding
In order to get into an inclusion class though they need to be tested through the school and be diagnosed by a neurologist. The IEP or 504 plan they make for your child travels with them through their whole school career. It really is like night and day. For example, when my son takes a test he's allowed more time and can take the test isolated from other kids and distractions.
Some times ppl just understand my husband has Aspergers and my mom side and my grandma always have something to say this and that abt him instead of understanding that how he is. They always think he can just not do stuff and that's not how it work.
Getting a neurologists diagnosis helped a lot with acceptance for us
My daughter has defiance disorder and my son has multi domain learning disabilities including ADHD and shows signs of Aspergers. I took them both to a neurologist to have them diagnosed. In elementary schools now they've really cut out calling it special ed due to bullying. There are now inclusion classes. In an inclusion class there is a special ed teacher and a regular teacher an d the special ed teacher gives extra attention to the kids who need it but all the other kids just think it's just an aid. My son is in inclusion with an IEP plan. Setting up a plan with child study team makes all the difference.
@amaperalta03, tbh I was picked on a lot at school and didn't have many friends because of my difficulties socializing. as for the classes, I was in a class that helped my organizational skills, time management and social skills because those were the areas I needed assistance with. I was mainstreamed for my other classes though.
@nightdaughter, how did the kids at school treat you ? Were you put into a special class or were you main streamed ?
@mommy1987, I was diagnosed with ADHD at 6 and Aspergers at 10
@mommy1987, my nephew is 4. But I know of children who got diagnosed as early as 3
I have ADHD and Aspergers I had a hard time growing up with people treating me different but my saving grace was how supportive my family was. they took the time to understand my social "shortcomings" and they gave me my space when I needed it.
My 13 year old step son has really bad ADHD and aspergers.
Calling all moms that has a child with ADHD!!!
What are some symptoms your child has?? My mom thinks my oldest might have ADHD
Mommas who are separated from their childrens dad. If my sons father is to get our son every other Friday-Sunday, but then tells me halfway through the week he can't take him Friday until Saturday due to taking up an optional shift at work, can I legally tell him he either takes him Friday at his ordered time or doesn't get him? He's constantly cancelling whole weekends or taking our son a quarter of his ordered time. He also isn't following the meets on the order. Almost every Sunday he has him...
❤️Getting to know you❤️
Since our May group is growing strong and we have a lot of new mommies joining and sharing their bfp's...Thought it will be fun to get to know each other as we all share our pregnancy journey!
i’m so close to just blocking my bfs number & never speaking to him again. 😡 idc if we have a child together this is my child not his 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Does anyone have any advice or been in this situation before? Long story short is I have to push my almost 3 year old in a stroller to get him to nap or sleep EVERYDAY. He doesn’t need the motion just the restraint because if not he’ll just get up and go. He never stops, he’s autistic and at this point I’m not sure what else to do. I’ve tried a weighted blanket and it helps him stay asleep but not get to sleep. Any suggestions would be amazing🙏🏼
It's never easy to get a child who has issues to understand that something is wrong. My oldest boy has a whole slew of medical issues and I just have to reassure everyone that we r working on his psychiatric care all the time. He does have ADHD and also on the curve for autism bipolar aggression issues n ODD but I'm in constant contact with his psychiatrist and school. He does have an IEP and is in inclusion classes and does well. He has his bad days and those days r better spent at home but I make it work time love and patience is the best medicine and if the family can't accept the way he is they maybe should take some special classes to learn how to deal with him
