This might be a stupid question but as soon as you give birth and the baby is put on your chest, how do you breastfeed? Do you just put them on your boob and hope for the best or do the nurses do that for you?
I just put my nipple by my daughter's mouth and she opened up her mouth. I had the hospital lactation nurse come to my room. She checked on me a lot and taught me a lot of positions and how to have her latch on.
I put her on myself. If the latch is wrong they will help. My nurses always came to get a look and see how well she was on
the nurses will help you or at least mine did.. but you just use you nipple how you would a bottle and get baby to open its mouth and once they do that they'll start to suck
If you give baby time they will do "the boobie crawl" as my nurses called it!!! With my first I had to get stitches so the nurses put my daughter in my arms and had me rub my nipple on her cheek so she turned and latched. with my son they put him on my chest and he made his way to my breast and latched by himself after a little while!!! the nurses (shift change so I had about a thousand) cheered him on and said he's strong and has an awesome boobie crawl!
