can I feed a newborn when it's laying flat on it's back?? he's 1 month old. he is bottle fed.

I just got a packet from my doctor about how to hold the baby/bottle while feeding. I breastfeed, but pump sometimes as well. It said if you lay the baby down while feeding, it increases their chances of getting an ear infection as well as choking, due to the angle .

I always feed my son in a up right position. I was just asking because I seen a girl who fed her baby laying down.

My doctor said if you can't lay on your back and drink something why would you do it to an infant....

it's strongly advised against this, especially with bottles as the flow is not as easily controlled by baby. they always recommend feeding in an upright position to avoid choking or aspiration especially during sleep. good luck
