How do I know what contractions are?? Please be nice ftm everything I read says they are like strong cramps but I've always gotten lucky and not really have any period cramps? I'll be 38 weeks Thursday ...

it is a he'll of a lot worse than a period cramp. you feel pressure in your vagina likr its going to fall out and pressure in uour butt like you have to poop. the pain makes you want to jump out a window
Consistency, if you have pains they aren't always cramps, that come and go, they are most likely contractions. Some women like myself also have tighting of the stomach with the pains or cramps, but not all women do, contractions come and go, it's not a constant pain. I hope this helps! :)

your real contractions don't necessarily have to hurt, I was in labor for 27 hours and was sleeping, talking, and laughing through mine (I didn't have any pain meds/epidural either). just look for consistency
