Just a warning for everyone thinking about getting an IUD birth control. I just had mine taken out after 5 weeks due to a rare but serious complication. My uterus became infected and I didn't experience any symptoms other than consistent spotting until the infection moved up my Fallopian tubes. At 13 weeks pp, I am back on post birth restrictions for lifting, bending, and sex. Thankfully we have good insurance so j went into the doctor as soon as I felt sick so they caught it before it became a bad infection. However, there is a chance that this episode may have affected my ability to get pregnant in the future. There are risks with every form of bc. If I had to do it over again, I would still get the IUD because it's the best option for me. From the first noticeable symptom to the time I was needing to go to the ER, less than 3 hours had passed. I was in the ER twice and many of the Drs and nurses seemed to question the validity of my pain since they couldn't figure it out. Don't let them pit you down if you are legitimately having undiagnosed pain. And if something feels off, like bleeding for over 13 weeks pp, speak up. Get a second opinion. My OB had told me not to be too concerned. My lack of speaking up almost cost me more than I was willing to lose. I won't change doctors, because she is one of the best in the country,and I don't blame her for not catching it. I had a lot of abnormal bleeding before and during my pregnancy.
