Stay at home moms, you deserve our respect! We hear all the time how hard it is to juggle a career and parenting. But what about moms who are at home all day. There is way too much mom shaming on mothers who choose to stay home with their children.💞

We asked moms in the mom.life app, a supportive social network for moms, what SAHM myths they would love to bust. Here are 17 preconceived notions about stay at home moms shattered. ✨

➡️ 1. It’s easy

“It's not for the faint of heart. It is a different kind of work because there are no breaks or adult contact throughout the day, so it is not only physically demanding (chasing a nearly 1 year old, come on we can all agree to that lol), but it is also VERY emotionally demanding. More so than any job I have ever had. Every day as a SAHM is tedious, I have to try and keep a schedule, I have to cook and clean and play and clean and cook and clean... “

“Being a stay at home mom is not AWESOME. it’s the loneliest job on the planet, living your life on repeat everyday totally gets annoying.”

➡️ 2. It’s fun and not stressful

“It's just a huge cycle of the same crap every day, and even if I try and mix it up and go for walks in different directions or play different games or make different meals or whatever, it's all the same when it comes down to it. SAHM's deserve more respect for their jobs because it takes a special kind of strength to be able to handle the stress of it all. And with that said, I might also add that despite wanting to rip my hair out and run away forever some days, I wouldn't change it for anything because this is what is best for OUR situation, and what is best for OUR little girl and I love her more than anything. I hope as she gets older that this amazing bond we have will last a lifetime and when I finally do get to go back to work she will be proud of me and grateful to have spent this time with me...😍😍😍😍”

“I want to scream and say I'm home 24/7 with 2 children I'm lucky if I get a shower in at night every few days because I'm so exhausted keeping up with them I have zero down time to take care of myself. With a husband that works full time and more jobs in the side me staying at home can be extremely lonely.”

➡️ 3. They can meet your girlfriends whenever they want

“Stay at home moms don’t get out and that takes a huge toll, it’s boring staying in your house with no adult communication. It gets frustrating when your baby won’t stop screaming and you have no one to help you for a minute. I personally have done both, I was a stay at home mom for the first 4 months & now I’m a working mom. A mom is a mom whether you work or stay home!!!”

“I am a little of both SAHM and a working mom. I work from home so I have to juggle my work production, household duties, and taking care of the baby. My husband works from home as well and while he will help with household things and outside yard maintenance... I'm still left to tend for the baby on my own. It's very difficult.”

➡️ 4. They can take a break or even a nap whenever

“When my little is napping, I am cleaning, meal prepping, taking care of our animals (chickens, ducks, a turkey, geese, and 2 dogs), doing laundry, doing school work (full time student at UoPX), budgeting/couponing, making appointments, etc.”

➡️ 5. They are just taking care of their kids all day

“A SAHM is a mom with so many more roles. The only thing that stands for home is not out of the house working. We're in the house working. Laundry, cooking meals, waking up before our child gets up, washing dishes, cleaning the house, keeping up with our kids, playing doctor, teacher, mentor, chef, no sleep sometimes. Its more than just sitting around doing nothing. You're the Queen of the house so you're more than being a mom who stays home.”

➡️ 6. Stay at home moms judge working mothers

“Honestly, I hate mom bullies and don't have time to worry about what other mothers are doing- what works for my family may not work for yours. Kudos to the mothers who work and still hold down the fort when they're home and kudos to the mothers who stay at home and hold down the fort while your SO's are out of the home.”

“I will agree with working moms when they say that their job isn't over when they get home though. Both worlds are hard and tiring but our world as SAHMs is often over looked as us doing nothing 24/7 because we don't bring home a check. Then, when we try to do a little something to help with the income while being SAHMs, we are not supported and expected to just take the kid(s) with us to earn that money even if it's something that takes a few minutes or an hour.”

➡️ 7. They have lots of money

“While my fiancée makes enough to get us by, we live on a very tight budget... Why? because the cost of child care and gas would KILL any income I would bring home."

“My husband doesn't make a lot of money and honestly if I were working I could easily make twice what he makes, BUT, we believe it is a sacrifice worth making for our children. By some people's standards we would be considered poor, but we live simple and make it work. Our children and home are well cared for and loved and we wouldn't have it any other way. The truth is, you can make it work on very little money if it's important to you and I thank God that I have been given the opportunity to raise and care for my own children, it would break my heart to leave them every day.”

➡️ 8. They lost all your independence to their husbands

“When people think just cause you’re a SAHM that you lost your independence basically stating that SAHM sit home all day doing nothing & depend on their husband. No, it is work cooking, cleaning, handling business all while fulfilling your little ones needs & try to squeeze your own needs in with the little bit of down time you actually do get which is sometimes literally 15 minutes & by time night time come your so exhausted you fall asleep on yourself 😔”

➡️ 9. They do nothing all day

“When people think you don't do nothing all day 😑😑 These dishes, clothes, baby clothes, work clothes, baby bottles ain't gonna clean themselves, and those dirty diapers ain’t gonna change themselves either. I have to make food, bathe my kids put them to bed, fold the clothes organize the house before husband comes, and then I have to serve him dinner then. When I get a little chance, I take a shower, but it gotta be really quick because then my husband wants to take a shower. And I just had twin girls that eat every 2 hours so!! Yeah no sleep here!! #3kids #energetic3yearold #newborntwins #wifewithnolife”

“I just had my first baby in May and taking care of him all day is not nothing. Although I will say I found the newborn stage incredibly easy but now they he's getting to be a bit older he is having to be entertained more and I'm still learning how to be a mama so that takes getting used to. Be we certainly do NOT sit at home and do nothing all day!”

➡️ 10. They love all things baby

“I know every word to the Octonauts theme song. I can quote the entire Winnie the Pooh movie, and I'm pretty sure I can do better baby sign language than the instructors at this point. Being a stay at home mom isn't a walk in the park or a nap in the afternoon, it's hard work.”

➡️ 11. It’s not a job

“I'm criticized by people who say 'all you do is take care of a baby,' but there's a reason why babysitting is a paid job. It is work and some days it can be pretty difficult. A tiny demanding little person with their own quirks and mood swings, that you have 100% responsibility for. I've never left my daughter with a babysitter in her whole 11 months of life, so I've been working 24/7 without a day off or time to myself. I love her and I love being able to be here for her though. She won't be this little forever and I'm glad I haven't missed a single moment!”

➡️ 12. They can sleep in everyday

“It’s a 24/7 job and everyone thinks we sleep all day 😳 We are lucky if we get 2 -4 hours total for the whole day. I'm a stay at home mom of three children 8 years old, 3-year-old, and almost 6 month old. Husband works everyday all day but I thank him for that but it's much harder than it looks. But I would not change it for the world.”

“The most annoying myth to me is that we can stayed in bed until noon😡 We are always the first to get up and the last to go to sleep.”

➡️ 13. They don’t need help from their SO

“That we don't need help from our significant others because we are home all day, and that we can do EVERYTHING and still find the time/energy to 'help' our men or partners.”

➡️ 14. Their kids are not well socialized

“We do story time at the library we join mom groups and have weekly play dates with other children our children don't sit and home and play solo we have activities around town for them to do weekly ...”

➡️ 15. They are lucky to be home

“Now don't get me wrong, being a stay at home mama is a blessing, but we don't all do it because we're "lucky" and can afford it. Some of us do it because we don't have a support system of friends or family and we can't afford to use an entire paycheck on daycare and don't want to anyways.... Also if I were to go to work I would have had to pump and my supply would have tanked because my line of work doesn't allow breaks whenever I need them, so I would have to worry about buying formula...not to mention the fact that my girl never once accepted a bottle, so there's a whole new struggle...I hear a lot of "you should feel lucky to stay at home and play with your kid all day", but until you actually are a SAHM and try and immerse yourself in it as much as many of us do, you don't really know the struggle. I never get a break, from the time my daughter was born my life has shifted, my life is now all about her needs 24/7. These needs don't stop when I close my eyes to sleep, these needs don't stop when I haven't eaten all day and I am shaking from hunger, these needs don't stop when I haven't had a shower in 3 days because I can't leave her alone long enough to do it...there are no State mandated breaks like at work, I don't get to socialize with adult coworkers, I don't get to take a break from the whining and clinginess...I don't get to just be MYSELF. It's hard work, and easy to lose everything about yourself because you work SO HARD to feel important, to feel like you are pulling your weight because society tells us that being a SAHM is a "blessing" and is lazy and is not fair to the partner etc. etc... It is hard. My day consists of being a slave to the needs of another for every second of the day, and although it isn't like that for all of us (those who are lucky enough to have family and friends who babysit), it is for me and others, because we don't have the option to escape for a day or even a few hours..."

➡️ 16. Their life is completely flexible

“A SAHM has a full time job. More than full time. From eyes open to eyes closed. No breaks. No call ins. No sick days. A rare "vacation." If it weren't for me, my home would be a disaster, along with everyone in it. I take care of EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. Mothers are the glue of a household. In my house daddy goes out and busts his ass to provide financially and momma stays home to make sure everybody is happy, healthy, fed, clean, and comfortable. A SAHM is just as important as anyone else.
"

➡️ 17. Their role is second to their working partner

“SAHMs play an important role in the family. Just because you're not the bread winner doesn't mean you stay at home and do nothing. Usually you're the one that wakes up at night to take care of the baby. You keep things clean and cook for your family all while having to give attention to your children. It's a tough and rewarding job.”

“A SAHM (Stay at Home Mom) is equal or tougher than an actual job it's not staying home on your ass doing little things or nothing, it's making sure your family stays in one piece an making sure your baby/children/Husband have a safe and comfortable home to be in. Its making sure you do what you have to do as a MOM. Yes, you have a Man there to help and do the hard building/fixing jobs, but we all need those stay at home moms... Always ☺😊☺”

we do the Ultimate Job of all.. meanwhile sacrifice our own needs ,dreams all of it!!! You'd think that we would be compensated for all the hard work we do....but some of us don't..or rarely even get appreaciated 😥but discredit for all the amazing things we do for our kids..for anyone to say it's easy..has not experienced giving birth for 15-20 hrs had to recover and still manage to care for a youngin' . I did it alone recovering cesarean and will have to again..cause the people around me cannot see why I may need help! But it's okay what doesn't Kill you makes you stronger..and I'm an Avid believer in that💪💪💪💪💪💪

I'm so sick of hearing about how hard it is to be a SAHM. I'm sorry I don't mean to offend but you have the ultimate job. You get to be with your baby all day while somebody else pays the bills. Raising humans is hard no matter what your situation, but crying everyday as you drive away leaving your baby with somebody else and sitting in a dingy bathroom to pump milk 3 times a day instead of nursing because you pay your own bills - that is the ultimate torture. I miss out on so much and there's nothing I can do about it. I provide a beautiful home for my baby in exchange for not being there 40 hours a week.

@jait sure is the ultimate job I love it and am so thankful for my wonderful husband who supports us so I can go to school and be with my lovely baby 💁 I'm so wonderfully blessed. It would suck to have to go to work and leave my baby with a complete stranger.

@jana.bear, there's ups and downs to both. just because you're on one side of the spectrum doesn't mean that sahms don't miss out too, we just miss out on different things. it's equal.

@mum2logi, exactly! if i had a garden i would WORK in it weeding fertilizing and taking care of my garden by putting WORK into it everyday to get the vegetables as the end result. this is the same with sahm and there are pros and cons on both sides! my husband may pay for the seeds and the land its on and the things i need to take care of it but that does nothing without all the WORK that is unpaid that needs to go into it. so maybe i as a sahm dont have a "paycheck" but my husbands paycheck is OURS 💯 we earned it together by taking care of buisness and working together to do what we do. i dont for one minute think anyone supports me and takes care of me. we support and take care of each other! so yes we pay the bills we take care of our home our kids fill the fridge and everything else together! i just do behind the scenes work and he gets the money so i can do what needs to be done and that all counts! both sides of the spectrum are equally filled with pros cons good bad and if it works for the family its all good. i wouldnt say one is better or worse. its still WORK no matter how you look at it! @jana.bear

Ive done both I looved staying at home with my baby its hard work especially when u have a baby clinging to you that makes it hard to get things done fbut had to return to work to help pay the bills. The difference when you do work is you have to do the same things as a stay at home mom but in less time. you get home from work and have to do the cleaning/cooking/laundry/groceries/baby duties before bed.
