ladies we were talking on fb about what a God parent is... what do guys think a God parent is??

person who takes over if the parents pass away.

If u really think about it. Most children end up with their grandparents or sibling of one of the parents if something happens to they parents. Most godparents I feel is more just in name, then in reality.

@10yearslater0205, well when I said raise my child the way I would I mean with my beliefs too. I don't have a religion but I do believe in god. as we grew up we got to choose what we wanted to believe in. any other family member would force a religion on my daughter and I don't like the thought of that. it maybe a loose way to use the term godparent, but in a way it kinda is. in today's society godparent is used without any catholic influence. catholic religion isnt the dominant religion anymore. and godparent has kinda came to mean a person who gets custody if something happens to parents. its a term that no longer has catholic attached to it every time it's used. I'm sorry I even commented on this y'all are so narrow minded. god parent is used wrongly every damn day. get over it. no one means offense by it when they leave out or don't know it catholic.

I think in today's society you see it more and more ... I think it's great to have a set of people who love u like your parents .. We have chosen to walk away from the catholic faith and stick with non denominational where growing up in my church we didn't do God parents .. My other two have them because we were raising them Catholic but this baby probably won't have one but I know my daughters God mother will treat her like she does my other two

I see there all types of different opinions about it I never knew about the religious part of it so you guys have definitely taught me something @10yearslater0205 @cubanese @geekymomma13 @laceymashay @mamesey but my God parents are like @babyj0916 said they are my second parents

@geekymomma13, that's not a god parent though that's a person you and your fiancé would actually put in a legal document .. When we traveled for the first time out of the country we actually had to draw up a will and leaving our child and subsequent children to someone we choose my best friend and her husband they weren't my child's god parents we also had to leave money to another family member to disperse to our children appropriately should we die ..

@laceymashay, is right. but in my case I am not religious nor is my family but my little sister will be my daughters godmother. she is the only person I can think of that would raise her the way I would if me or my fiance were to have something happen to us.

A God parent to me is somebody who assumes the role of a spiritual leader to the child if anythinh were to happen to the parents. They look out for the child's well-being, their sould, pray for them, & protect them. I've also known of God parents who ended up with custody of their god children because something happened to the parents

For Catholics we have them for our children it's a male and a female who are Catholic it's a promise that they will help raise the child up in catholic faith and be there for them every step of their Christian journey .. Now unfortunately my sons God parents suck and my daughters God mother is great she plays that role for both my kids
