Hey ladies, I have a question about maternity leave pay.. im starting to freak out! I'm currently 21weeks and I started a new job on the 27th June this year. I left a 4 year job to change my career. at the interview I told the boss I was pregnant (was about 7 weeks at the time) and she was fine about it and said she would give me maternity leave.. but how does that work with centerlink payments. I'm full time atm but worried cus I haven't been there for long. will i still get maternity leave pay?? I'm in QLD. any one that has any advise would be so much appreciated xx.. i couldnt go all thay time with out pay eekkkk!

hope everything works out for you @littlevb

I ended up going into centerlink and u can change jobs or be in the same just but have to be working with have no more then 8 weeks off unpaid or between jobs. u should still get parental leave through centerlink. I'd advise to apply earlier though through centerlink.. but u can only apply 3 months before bubs due date :) so all u will have to do is take bubs birthday certificate in to centerlink and they will start paying you. hence why you do the application in advanced save so much time

I'm glad you asked this. Due to my husbands work we are having to move across the country about 2 weeks shy of me being at my current employers for 12 months (which is the required term for maternity pay for us). I am still going to speak to HR due to the circumstances and the minimal time difference.

U should still be eligible for parental leave pay through centrelink should ur workplace not offer it, give them a call :) x

all I got was a contract and it doesn't state any about maternity leave or any leave 🤔 so will have to chat to her tomorrow and get in writing. she said when I started she is happy to offer it.

Check your company policy and procedures on maternity leave. I have to have worked in my company for 12 months or more to be entitled to maternity leave. I haven't looked into centre link yet
