Is having food stamps frowned upon period, and by frowned upon I mean you automatically think: "no job" "lazy asses" or even
Having food stamps with an actual job but you still qualify for help and you get that help is it considered lazy/selfish? I feel like anyway I look at it anyone can twist either way around the wrong way.

No if you seriously need help, then why not. It's one thing of you need it and another if someone is abusing the system
myra·
you're working right!! a Lil help wouldn't be a problem .

If you are working trying to support your family but still need help it's not wrong but if you just don't want a job or you are too lazy to do anything then it's abusing the system.
Ally·
because I was a single parent and came to newyork without a job, and all that fun stuff, I got help. and now, even with my boyfriend and i on the same case, we are still qualified for help with insurance and foodstamps. if I was to work, my entire check and part of his too would go towards daycare. we only make $400 a week and get like $300 in foodstamps. but that's split between 5 people

@elainaelise, @myramercado I see the difference between someone that gets their check from the government and just live off of it instead of someone who has a job and still can't make ends meet. But either way I see people talking cramps out it regardless "those are my tax dollars" yeah, but the ones who actually work that's pretty much their tax dollars too
myra·
those plp you mention first are abusing the system and yes they are lazy but if your working and still need help shit why not . you still paying your tax money towards it .

my bf travels almost 200 miles to get to work everyday leaves at 5 am doesn't get home till 7 pm, he doesn't make enough to pay for day care so I can't get a job and we aren't qualified for food stamps because he makes 50 dollars over the income limit, we eat decent at night but I barely eat during the day because we can't afford it hes far from lazy and I would def work if I had someone to watch my son

Well unfortunately I'm one of those people that needs assistance from the government because I have an autoimmune disease where I cannot work. I hate feeling dependant upon the government but I have to put my pride aside for my kids until I get approved for ssi.

@mom y763, and what's sad is that the people that need it the most usually don't get it. & @calliesmith there's a complete difference between not being able to work and not wanting to work

husband is working his butt off all the time with all the bills added up by the end of the month we would have $20 to our name and no money to buy food. so we got food stamps and it helps so much! then I see my sister who doesn't work and her bf also doesn't work and they get $500 plus cash aid and blow it on ribs and steaks it makes me mad! I wish I can buy things like that with my food stamps but it'll all be blown by the end...I make it last plan meals with it weekly it's just a so so situation

@jamie_and_donovan, I agree. It's a lot to come by now a days and that's because I know some people that don't have kids or anything yet they get assistance & don't work and it's like really if it weren't for people like that they might be able to extend the income range & supply something even if it's just $100 anything helps.

I have food stamps just until I can get a job but once I get a job and I'm making alot of money I might stop the food stamps @allyk.xmommy
Ally·
@soontobemommy01, when I came back to newyork, I went job hunting because i was homeless. but because I my medical history doctors advised against it. before I had my son, when I was pregnant, I baby sat, and did what I could to make money. but it wasn't enough to get anywhere. so I applied and got foodstamps and was able to feed me and my growing baby. then when I moved in with my boyfriend, instead of being greedy and keeping our own cases seperate, we added them together. he has a decent job, gets all the bills payed, but we just needed that little bit of help to feed our 3 kods and ourselves. I planned on going back to work, I would loose my foodstamls, but with daycare exspense, it'll take up my whole check. so it'll do more harm then good

Yeah I just moved out here with my boyfriend and his family I'm from Arizona and I have no job and it's really hard because noone is really hiring and my boyfriend is 17 so it's hard for him to get a job cause they want him to be 18 so I got food stamps and then I just applied for calworks I hate depending on the government but it's just for a short amount of time..@allyk.xmommy,
Ally·
@jamie_and_donovan, yea, I know right. my sister is completely able to work. but chooses not to. no kids, lives with our mother, no bills. so she gets foodstamps and blows it or sells it. it's crazy. where my boyfriend and i use it to feed our kids and make sure they have lunch for school and that no-one goes hungry. my SO makes about 400 a week. $240 for rent, $240 car payment, $125 car insurance, $175 electric, we have 2 vehicles that we use almost everyday, so that means $50/w on gas. then there is school expenses, diapers wipes, clothes, any tools SO needs for work. it crazy. the amount we have left over after everything isn't enough to feed 5 people. every little extra penny goes into savings.
Ally·
@soontobemommy01, who cares if you kept it a bit longer. it's there to help people. yes I agree some people abuse it. but if you need help ask. especially if you have children. we are planning on getting a better vehicle, but my SO , in top of his main job, sells wood, and trades, and helps people with their vehicles. every penny goes into savings for when we need it. would it be fun to blow it on things we want? sure! but we put it away. we want another baby, so we are preparing.
