What's it like to be induced? My first baby came at 38 weeks, but here I am at 39 weeks with baby number 2 and still no signs of upcoming labor. Just really starting to wonder if I'll end up being induced and what that is like.

Spicy food won't really do much. All it does is cause intestinal contractions which is what supposedly causes real ones. Sex helps soften the cervix. Try walking, squats, bouncing on a ball or the bed. And at around 38 weeks you can ask to have your membranes swept but it doesn't always do anything.

@dcb012, that sounds a lot better. I would hope it would be a quicker process and it would take on the first try hopefully. I'm trying to naturally induce as much as I can at this point with spicy food and sex. I hope it works lol

I was induced twice and I did not have an epidural but everyone is different

You can get an epidural whenever you want once you're in labor. But it's nice when you're induced because there's no rush to push fluids and they usually need to push 1.5 bags of fluid before they can give you your epidural. Each doctor also does inducement different. Ours here start the pitocin and break your water at the same time so there's no way you can be in labor more than a handful of hours. The contractions are more intense I think but having the ability to ask for meds as soon as they start getting uncomfortable was nice. And natural labor can last weeks without doing anything so the few hours isn't bad.

@dcb012, I can see that being a perk that you know when it's going to happen at least. does that also mean that you can get an epidural earlier?

@jgarciamua, wow induced for 3 days! I have a 2 year old son that I am dreading to leave even over night. Idk how he would do without me for 3 days plus healing time at the hospital. thank you for sharing your story ♡

I was induced twice, neither time was bad. I was glad to know what I would be expecting and when it would be.

Its a risk to getting a c section. I got induced at 42 weeks and was close to getting a csection bc it took 4 times for induction to work. I was induced a sunday morning and delivered tuesday afternoon. Everybody reacts different to it ☺️

seems like I've seen a lot of women have gotten or are getting induced solely because they are uncomfortable?? Like around 38 weeks...I didn't know doctors would even do that without a medical reason? I know everyone handles pregnancy differently and for some it can be pure hell...but here I am overdue and I still don't want to be induced even with how insanely uncomfortable I am. I personally feel like that's kind of selfish...of course if there is a real reason then absolutely do it for the health of you and your baby but if it's just discomfort come on..wait another couple weeks until your baby is ready on his or her own.
