What's everyone doing about making bottles? My sister in law had a baby last month and she brought a prep machine as u can't make them from boiled water now because of bacteria. I think it's a load of poop!! when we go out she takes the ready made cartons of milk with her which are about 72p each!!! Waste of money. When my daughter was born 5 years ago we made our bottles up and had the powder milk in the pot. If she wanted warm milk we would warm it up in a jug of water (but she only likes cold milk) or if the bottle was too warm we would put it under cold water. What is everyone else doing???

What are you meant to make them with then if you can't use boiled water? Xx

Suppose to use the prep machine now. It's stupid. My sister in law didn't even know she was pregnant and got told to do one thing by her midwife and do something completed different from health visitor. Baby is going to get some sort of bacteria some how. That's why I think it's a waste of money with the ready made milk

I had same convo other day, i had my first baby 13 years ago, and we were told to make up 6 bottles in morning cool and put in fridge then heat in a jug of water, tbh none of mine have liked warm milk always been room temp, i find it amazing how things have changed over the years x myself i have for last 2 babies made bottles of water and cooled, then later added milk wen needed so i will probably do same and warm in jug of water xx

That's exactly what I'm doing @safiamammy1. The prep machine is a lot of money and my sister in law rushes around when the baby is crying his heart out. And the milk is still warm. So much has changed x

I think it's a load of rubbish, I used to make my bottles up then just add the powder or use the ready made cartons if I was out n about and ran out and my daughter was fine! Not everyone will manage to afford the prep maker as it is quite expensive, it's crazy how everything has changed in the past 8 years x

The guidelines changed after the death of some babies due to bacteria in the powdered milk. That's why they recommend now u either make up with boiled water or people are using the perfect prep machine. As the first shot is hot enough to kill any bacteria in the milk powder. Things have changed a lot since my first where we used to make them up with boiled water rapidly cool them then put in fridge for up to 24 hours. Each to there own I guess.

I think they advice to make each bottle fresh these days instead of making up a bunch then re-heating. I wouldn't tell any other Mum how to make a bottle but I make 3 or 4 at a time & just add powder when needed. Did this with my 1st son as well @cs90 I debated a prep machine but actually thought it would take longer to get a bottle ready. Especially at night time having to come downstairs whilst baby cries.. Sod that lol.

I have a prep machine I love it so easy I put the powder in the bottles before bed then it literally takes about a minute to make the bottle as all you have to do is press a button so easy couldn't have done with out it specially for night feeds so easy you can do it one handed with baby in the other and when I go out I just have the power in containers with how ever many oz and bring a flask worked with my first so definitely be doing the same with this one xx

Everyone I've spoke to who owned one has said that prep machines are a waste of money. I suppose it depends on your lifestyle, etc. But personally I won't be using one. I'll probably just make them up as I go along and see how it goes xx

@cs90, i put half the amount of boiled water that i need in the bottle then put it in the fridge. when i need the bottle i top it up with boiling water and add the formula. that way its at the right temp for my son straight away and he doesnt have to wait for his feed to cool or warm. if im going out i pour some of the cooled water away and top up with boiling and add the formula straight away. theres 2 pockets in my change bag that are insulated so they keep it warm for upto 3 hrs x
