currently baby boy eats only breast milk. direct breast feeding didn't work for us so I pump 100%. I am not sure when I am going to stop but wanted to start researching how to go from breast milk to formula. what I am reading is so contradictory. any advice would help. including how to lessen my pain

You're having pain in your breast?

No but I know when u go to stop breastfeeding/pumping it can be painful

You can't just stop pumping cold turkey. You have to stage it out over weeks. Drop one pump ever week or so. I've dropped down to 3 pumps about a week or so ago. Then I September I plan on dropping down to 2 pumps because we're going on vacation for 10 days and I don't want to be tied to the pump. I can manage morning and night. By November I need to stop because then work gets busy and I will be working later and I don't want to have to come home exhausted and have to pump. I'm hoping to have enough stashed to last me for a while longer.

Also you can be feeding breast milk and formula at the same time. My son gets 3 breast milk bottles during the day and 2 formula bottles at night. We've been doing this for a good 2 months now and he's fine. My pediatrician said it was ok to do.

This is great information. Thank you so much. So he can get a solid bottle of just formula (to start) daily? you don't need to mix half and half?

Babies can have both at the same time! My daughter gets 2-3 feedings of breast milk a day and the rest is formula. We had to switch to a partially digested one (we use enfamil gentlease) but she is totally fine, happy, and healthy. She's gained two pounds from her lowest weight post birth, and is only a month old.
