Hmmm... 🤔

Why Prescribed Prenatal Vitamins Simply Do Not Give Your Baby What They Need to Be Healthy

Most over the counter or prescribed prenatal vitamins do not do very much for your health. There are a few exceptions to this rule, such as Nature Made Prenatal-Multi, but many do not make a whole lot of difference. In particular, most prenatals:

•Contain poor quality ingredients. The sad truth is that many vitamins prescribed by your doctor contain cheap ingredients because it costs them less money. This low quality means that many of the vitamins and minerals are no able to be absorbed by your body or your baby. So really, what is the point of taking them?

•Don’t contain the right ingredients in the right amounts. Your baby needs certain nutrients in specific quantities to make sure they grow big and strong. Many prenatal vitamins don’t get this right and they also miss out on special ingredients to relieve your nausea and calm you down.

•Come in one-a-day tablet form. I’ve spoken about why I don’t like one a day vitamins before, but not only do they not have anywhere near the nutrients you need in just one tablet, they also compress it all down into one which makes it very difficult for your body to digest. Even if the quality of ingredients was good, these tablets quite often don’t even make it to your stomach in the first place!

•Can contain harmful or unneccessary ingredients. Prenatal vitamins generally do not contain many of the harmful chemicals and compounds that can often be found in other vitamins, but there are still ingredients in them that are not necessary. Artificial flavoring, of which most is sugar, is the main one and is something you can do without as a mother-to-be. Artificial coloring is another, and it’s sole use is to make the pills look “pretty” for you. Avoid these in your prenatal vitamins because you just don’t know what impact they might have on your baby.

Many women experience nausea while taking these prenatal vitamins too, because of the poor quality nutrients in them. This can be avoided by taking a quality prenatal vitamin before conceiving, to ensure your body has all the nutrients your baby needs long before they start to grow.

So, if most over the counter or prescribed prenatal vitamins are not that great for you or your baby, what is the alternative? You’ll need all the standard and essential vitamins and nutrients, along with the ingredients that many vitamins don’t supply because of cost.

I decided to go with Joli mere bc they say they help prevent stretch marks I was so happy when I got them bc there is about 11pills a day in a small pack they have never made me sick and I have had a great pregnancy. I put a pic of my supply on a very old post somewhere. I mostly try to get all of my nutrition from my food but the need to supplement in pregnancy is important to me. My dr had never heard of them but regardless I wanted them after doing my research. @pebblestone

I did research before picking my prenatal vitamin. My doctor gave me samples of the one-a-day prenatal. I never took them lol. the ones I'm taking now are called Zahler. They are pricey, but I rather pay for something that will actually give my baby and I the vitamins and minerals we need. None of that synthetic and filler stuff!! @pebblestone

Think I'm going to go to whole foods and get my prenatals from now on. I know they would short me n my baby on the nutrients that we need !
