Question ladies: can you drink alcohol while breastfeeding?

I'd say so. if you're sober enough to drive it's ok to pump and feed. and if not then wait "x" amount of hours for it to wear off. alcohol metabolizes in your milk at the same rate as it does In your blood.

@nicemmcha2015, is that the same for pumping? She doesn't actually nurse, I just pump and bottle feed

don't Pump and dump. idk why people think that is necessary. no, that'd a waste of milk and time. sober to drive is sober enough to nurse. 1 drink and you're fine.

I never personally used strips but u can get them at babies r us...i always go by how i feel

It's all good Hun. I'd never drink without dumping after and my OB said to ALWAYS pump and dump after drinking. I'm not a big drinker but after I have this little boy you better believe I plan on having a good time lol. I plan on having a night out and getting drunk for once and enjoy life.

Don't bother with the strips they don't work. Just from personal experience. Mix drink equals 2onces of liquor a double shot you should wait double the time

Do not pump and dump. Feed baby or pump or both before you have a drink. I agree with @karnamarie but the mix drink depends on how many shots. Usually a shot wait an hour is what I was told

Yes u dont necessarily have to pump and dump unless uncomfortable...rule of thumb if ok to drive ok to nurse...u can buy strips to test milk if nervous

@jesjeslovesyou, @karnamarie ok I was just wondering. I'm only 20 but sometimes my parents let me have some alcohol but I didn't know the rules with breastfeeding

Rule usually is 1 mix drink, 1 glass of wine, 2 beers wait an hour before breastfeeding. If you feel tipsy then wait an hour or two
