@ajsmommy7, Oh momma I'm so sorry! It really is a learning curve. One of my friends used a shield for almost 3 months and is now just getting her lo off it. It takes time. I had to pump also in the beginning and it wasn't enough. Sometimes as first time nursing moms we don't react well to the pump. Your body will get used to it eventually and remember what you pump is not an indication of your supply. The baby is better a getting the milk out than any ole pump. Keep working with your LC if you can and try to get to a breastfeeding support group, it will really help. Joining a local Facebook breastfeeding group is also helpful. You got this momma!
Oh good, I've seen some moms use shields without an LCs supervision and the baby becomes dependent on it. If I may ask, did your LC say what could be causing you the need to use it? Shields aren't supposed to be for long term use. Once we identified what the issue was with my daughter, we addressed it and worked to get her off the shield. It took a bit to get latched properly but we eventually learned. 😀
@ajsmommy7, First let me say a nipple shield should be used under the direction of a lactation consultant. With that said she adjusted fine until we clipped her ties. Because she wasn't gaining fast enough and becoming a lazy nurser with the shield the LC had me stop using it but we used it for about 2 wks.
Thank you love @marmber
