I guess my stepson wasn't fed before I picked him up and now he's pissy and keeps saying mmm (I wish he wasn't so behind because of his mom. I'm trying to get him to say I'm hungry)cause he's hungry. Even though I'm already making him something to eat.
@hart.momma, honestly it's me who feels this way. I don't know why. I just feel like something is slightly off. I feel horrible for even having the feeling tbh. :(
@royalty, have your fiancé go to the next pedi or speech therapy appointment & discuss his concerns of autism
Honestly I don't know. Getting her to do anything is a task. My fiances sister had to force her to take him the the hospital when he had a fever and it would go down @hart.momma
@royalty, no I don't believe my son is. He had gastroparesis/other Health issues & that causes a delay. Has he ever been check for seizures? There are seizures that cause blank stares caused absence seizures.
@hart.momma, I totally get that. And that's horrible. I know this is weird but have you felt like your son is autistic ? Sometimes I wonder by the way he acts if he is. I.e. He will just stand there and blink at you. Sometimes when talking to him he flicks his thumb and first finger with both hands. Some of his behaviors I'm not sure if it's because he's delayed.his mother had a friend come over and she told her to get him tested for autism and when she did. She said he's just a slow learner. But honestly I feel like he learns just fine when worked with.
@royalty, maybe court is the best them for that little boy. Just as a mom who has a delayed child I know some moms don't understand & just assume so I was defending a mom but now I see why your irritated. I was just speaking up cause I get called a bad mom all the time because my son is 14 months & on a paci & bottle but he has GI issues & can't have a silly yet, I just know how it is to be judged. But yeh if she doesn't work with him Thats not okay.
@hart.momma, You didn't offend. I would totally be understanding but unfortunately she is very lazy. I.e. I had to be the one to take away the pacifier at 2 1/2 years old. I had to be the one to take the bottle away. I totally understand him being delayed. It frustrates me that she doesn't work with him. We only get him every other weekend because it's the way she wanted. And we have tried to not go through the court etc. but it looks like we will have too. His speech has gotten better but only because of the speech therapist. When he wasn't going I was the only one working with him.which I didn't mind. But I told my fiancé to try talking. To her and telling her to work with him more and she quit letting us having him every other week. And tried to completely cut us out unless she needs me to watch him.
@royalty, I'm just giving a point of view from a mom who has a "delayed" child, didn't mean to offend you. I didn't say you were wrong, I said blaming his mom would be wrong if there's a bigger reason for the delay. Like for my son, he'll any to learn one day then the next he just makes noises for everything.
@mybabyloves, what if he doesn't know a lot of words. His vocabulary is very limited. I.e. Hello, hey,no,yes, yay, please thank you etc. he doesn't know the words for any time of food or drinks (maybe juice). He maybe knows about 20 ish words give or take. So do I just start with those words ?
@bababyloves, that might work. Because even though he's in speech therapy she doesn't allow us to have him enough so I try the best I can to work with him.
He is 3.5 and can talk good enough to understand him but he still signs when he talks and he taught his sister
Just start with simple everyday words. First ones my son learned was milk, sleep, hungry please and thank you
@mybabyloves, I can try that. !he is very smart. His speech trouble so that might help!(:
Sign language was a life saver for me my son didn't talk until he was over two because he has hearing loss in his right ear and can't gear very good in his left. I started sign language with him at 6 months and it helped me know what he needed when he was unable to say it. Both my kids know sign language and I will be teaching this one too. They can express what they want and feel before they are even one
Ive worked with a lot of children. He may be a slow learner but he is smart and I work with him a lot. I had him saying I'm hungry every time he's hungry but he speaks quietly when he talks. And you probably should know the whole situation before you tell me I'm wrong. He requires work.in which I put in. He loves to learn and we sit down together everyday and I work with him. But once he goes back to his mom he is sat In front of a tv all day long. He already is in speech therapy. He has been for a couple months. We used to get him every week and when we did he showed great improvement. I tell her what we have done but it's not being continued.
@royalty, my son is "delayed". You have to be patient. Just because they say it once doesn't mean they really learned, remembered or understood what they said. If you're worried start speech therapy. & depending on his age & where he is learning wise "mmmmm" may be perfectly fine for him. Kids with "delays" learn differently & even tho they are a certain age, their learning/talking/motor skills are at a different age, & that's what you go off of for what they say & how many words they use. There may even be a bigger reason for the "delay", so putting blame on his mom is wrong.. y'all should talk & figure out what words should be worked on, so he's not overwhelmed with so much at once.
He was diagnosed as a slow learner. But when he's here we all talk to him so much and I work with him. The week before last I finally got him to say I'm hungry. Then he went back to his mom and now he say mmmm again. I kinda feel like I'm on a treadmill. :/ @hart.momma
But I will have him do that.
