did any of ya mommies introduced cereal to yours babies? and at how many months ?

My baby is 5 months and I give her the Gerber oatmeal cereal , I heard oatmeal is better for the baby then the rice , but I give her 6oz of formula with a tablespoon of oatmeal and she goes to sleep around 8:30-9pm and sleeps solid until 9-9:30am , I really didn't want to give her any cereal because there isn't any nutritional benefits to it but it's mostly to thicken her bottle so she doesn't spit up as much , because she was spitting so so much so that's what her pedi recommended

@momi2b4, I introduced my son to rice oatmeal cereal at 3 months I think because my auntie was telling me it would help him sleep longer at night, lies they told

His dad also did a midnight diaper change so he wasn't wet at night and that was it he would sleep through that tho.

I think the oatmeal works fine too. But I think rice expands in the stomach better. Just a scoop or little over a tablespoon open the nipple up a little bit and there you go. Yes it was either 4 or 5 oz formula.

I couldn't take the eating every 3 hours I had to wake up for work at 5am back then so I had to do something and it worked. I was in bed every night after him by 930.

Just plan gerber rice cereal.

I think it will. I did a scoop of the cereal in the night time bottle nice and warm after a warm bath and he slept from 830-630 from the very first night. I plan to do the same with my daughter at 4 months.

@kandice_stedman86, my son just started waking up again at night so I would give him bottle and he will go back to sleep. would this help

I gave it to my son at 4 months at night only to help him sleep thru the night. It was not dr recommended but granny did, it was a life saver. I only did it at night so he wouldn't gain too much weight, by 1 he was 22lbs which was almost exactly triple his weight.

I'd honestly say do whatever makes you comfortable

My son is eating it in his formula because his ped is making me thicken his formula because he's aspirating. I'd rather use something natural or a formula thickener.

@bcall97, I know it makes them gain weight. I never gave my other babies cereal but I just wanted to see all mommies opinions

Everyone has their own opinion on what age, I was reading the cereal is like giving them pure sugar and they have something called open gut and it can cause obesity.

@bcall97, I was reading on the Gerber website and cereal can be started if there sitting with support. I read people comments on there and they have started at 4months. back then wic use to give cereal at 4 months. I don't know if wic still does since I'm buying my own formula

you're not supposed to until 6months unless you are thickening their formula even than they've made formula thickeners.
