Found out today from my doctor that the epidural does have some narcotics in it, but it is only directed into the spine and does not goto the head or anywhere else. I am a clean and sober mommy and in recovery from any mood or mind altering substance even when not pregnant. I still plan on getting the epidural if I don't get any feed back that it makes you feel high.. Feedback please mummmmys !!!!!

no it doesn't make you feel high, it just numbs you below your abdomen I remember I couldnt really move my legs but was able to relax a lot more than when I felt the contractions

It didn't make me feel high...it made me relax and let my body do what it's suppose to do to prepare for pushing. Best thing ever. I was in so much pain before and my body was tensing up causing me not to dilate.

Yeah they offer the morpheen drip through IV before they give the epidural I was told today, I'm not doing any pain meds. They offer laughing gas I guess before the epidural so I'll have to try that instead! @her owingmamaof2 thank you!!!

I got the epidural. Before I got it they gave me a pain med through my iv the knocked me on my but for five min. But the epidural its self didn't make me feel high or anything. I felt normal. I had no changes in anything. I just was finally able to not cry during my contractions. It took the pain away without making me feel any different. I was still sore tho.
