Any mommies out there that have had a c section have any tips for me? My number one fear is to have surgery while awake and I'm terrified for tomorrow... My c section is at 1015 and I'm just freaking out over here haha
I got spinal & it's amazing I could feel them moving & sometimes it sent pressure but nothing painful. they had to tell me they were actually operating I thought they were still prepping. my biggest tip is please please PLEASE take your meds do NOT try to be tough & tough it out even if you're not in a lot of pain at least take one. I skipped once & it was the worst decision I ever made. & ask for some pads & those mesh panties to take home
They will give you a spinal block which works IMMEDIATELY, feels like a long a** bee sting. Ally of pressure like a horse sitting on your chest but nothing painful, I had pain in my arm from air getting trapped in my diaphragm during surgery but went away after they closed me.It's my 2nd csection but first scheduled, first was no pain but I had a rough time with this one...for my expect to be so sore and the nurses pushed on my stomach several times after the numbing medicine wore off. That was my 2nd experience (done July 8th) but like I said my first was perfect so don't be freaked out.
@jaspersmommy0725, they normally do local anesthesia if it's not an emergency c-section. I don't know if you can request general. If you are awake request a wet cloth for your mouth because it dries out. I didn't experience shakes but with my 3rd I did experience itching from the anesthesia it wasn't horrible but it was annoying. Take the stool softeners I know the hospital I deliver at won't discharge you until you have at least passed gas. The nurses come in at odds hours to check you if you can request to know when especially if you want to sleep. I ignored them when they came in the room so that I could continue to sleep that worked.
I never knew you could get the shakes after an epidural. Guess that's why I was shaking after I had my son. No one ever told me that lol @arivera64
Expect lots of pressure. My son was 9 lbs and the pressure was so bad that it was on the verge of painful.
Also expect the shakes. During and after. That's normal. It's from the anesthesia. Even lots of moms who have vaginal birth that get the epidural get the shakes.
A pillow is your bff afterwards to cover your belly while you hold the baby and if you need to sneeze.
TAKE THE STOOL SOFTENER!
Expect lots of gas. A heating pad and a littlw soda can be helpful.
I did get nauseous because my sons head got stuck & it felt like they were in my throat while they were pushing on my stomach that's the worst of it... I got lightheaded & almost passed out but that's because I bled like crazy. I lost a lot of blood but you should be fine prayerfully
