When your baby loses their umbilical cord, should you wrap something around their belly to keep it from poking out when they strain? Did you / do you plan on binding your baby's belly??
I wrapped my baby's belly when hers fell off, and hers doesn't poke out, she has a pretty, flat belly button. Bc they cry a lot when they're weeks old, and it could cause a hernia. She is totally fine, and I wrapped her belly button
Leave it uncovers it should be fine. I've never heard of covering it. it's like a scab it will just fall off when it's healed. it may ooze a little but just wipe with alcohol pads and you should be fine.
I was never told to wrap my daughter's belly after her ambilicord fell off

Yeah. Now they can get worse than that which if it's doesn't correct itself they baby could have surgery for it but his has been the same size since birth maybe sometimes a little bigger after he eats but that's it.
@mommytoabel, I thought so, too. Everyone keeps telling me to bind her belly so I wanted to get more insight from other moms

Old people say you can put a penny or whatever size coin that will fit in it to make it stay down. But when my sons fell off he had a hernia and still does but it's very small. Almost looks like an outie belly button just more out than usual
no, baby's belly Will take care of itself for the most part. poking out is normal and will go away on its own usually. just have the pediatrician look at it at the next appointment to be completely sure. 😊
I've never heard of it poking out when they strain. My son's pediatrician told me that if it doesn't start to lay flat it could be an umbilical hernia but it eventually did. I feel like binding baby could be damaging somehow.
