Any advice on supplementing formula once a day to an exclusively breastfed baby?
I went back to work a couple of weeks ago and the constant pumping, storing and sanitizing pump supplies is really wearing me down! I even pump on my lunch break! I've been thinking about introducing formula for just one feeding while I'm at work to make it easier on me. I just have no clue where to start because I never educated myself on formula since I knew I would be breastfeeding.
What formula would you reccomend for an EBF baby?
Can you add formula to breast milk? I have a feeling she won't take the bottle unless it tastes like my milk.
my son is normally ebf. some days I pump before bed to make a stash.. for a little bit I couldn't pump enough for a good size bottle. so I've been making a 4 oz gentlease formula (you could also use the Gerber supliment formula.) bottle and mixing in with 4 oz of milk. he sleeps so much better at night and isnt quite as gassy in the morning.
I used the supplement, and gentle ease Enfamil.it was fine but when I wanted to exclusively give her breast milk, my doctor told me I couldn't cause she' had been on the formula for two long. so I still give her that while I'm working, and now that I've had a harder time pumping at work I'm loosing my supply
I use the similac supplement ready to feed formula but may switch back to what they gave her in the hospital (similac advance) since she seems gassy. It really is trial and error
I pump 4 times a day for my baby. Once in the morning, twice while I'm at work and once in the evening once the baby is sleeping. I give the baby pumped milk during the day and formula at night so he sleeps longer. I used to mix the breast milk with the formula and my pediatrician said it was ok but at some point I stopped doing that. I would start with either enfamil or similac regular. If the baby gets extra gassy you can change to one of the gas formulas. We use the gentlease. It's really a trial and error kind of thing.
