What is a sweep and when will midwife perform one? I'm 37 weeks and have midwife tomorrow seen some ladies saying they had a sweep at 38 weeks🤔
it depends on yr hospitals policy hun @courtniegeexo x
Do they only do them early because of complications? Only I've seen a few ladies having them at 38 weeks that haven't had anything wrong :/ xxx @karenb1601
the midwife basically does an internal and if she can will put a finger or 2 into yr cervix to try and stretch it and separate yr membranes ( that hold yr waters ) from yr cervix. this sometimes stimulates yr body to release hormones that can kick start labour. my midwife only does them from 40 weeks and it worked. but my consultant did one at 38 weeks cuz my bp was high @courtniegeexo x
Ah okay thank you ☺️xx @holliesinead
It's where they pull the cervix forward or something like that you've gotta be 40+ weeks unless for medical reasons they do it earlier, you've also got to be engaged enough and cervix has to be ready xx
Okay thank you x @karenb1601
