Depends on the state/hospital. I heard if they suspected use before the baby was born, then they would flag the mothers name and then they would test.

definitely depends on the state but in California my BESTIE had her middle child in one county and her last one in anthor in our county cps showed up as we came home with baby so she went and got her script when the last one was born they couldn't do anything but I don't agree with this at all

you're friend should probably stop smoking if she doesn't want to risk anything, if cps stops by and there is any trace of a Marijuana smell on any part of the baby they risk losing their child

my brother and his girl were on methadone to come off of whatever drugs they were using, the baby didn't get taken (for that reason; they had other circumstances months later) but the hospital does have to report anything that they see as child endangerment so if baby has any drugs in its system CPS will be notified and they will probably have surprise visits

They opened a case up against my sister. She had to do a year of being clean, random drug test and her other kids had to be at school on time plus visits from her worker. If she didn't comply all her kids would have been taken.
