If I think I'm in labor and should go on to the hospital do I just go and walk in or do I have to call them and my obgyn first to let them know?

If I think I'm in labor and should go on to the hospital do I just go and walk in or do I have to call them and my obgyn first to let them know?
I always called my Ob and he told them I'm coming in and when I got there they already had my room ready
