Not long usually. My older son was 8 lb 2 oz and stayed in nb for 5-6 weeks. My younger one was 8 lb 14 oz and was in nb clothes almost 2 weeks lol. It depends more on body shape than weight I think.

never start with newborn sizes bc the baby won't wear it for more than a month if your lucky....stay with 0-3 months. ...when my son was born I put him in 0-3 months And within 2 weeks it fit him very well
