But it doesn't stop there lol, once the egg is fertilized, it has to travel down the the uterus. If it makes it down to the uterus, it sheds the top layer and Imbeds into the uterus (implantation) once the egg implants you are considered pregnant. About 4-7 days after the egg implants you usually can get a VERY VERY faint positive pregnancy test :)

&& you CAN NOT get pregnant unless you have ovulated. When you ovulated your body releases the egg, the egg only lives for 24-48 hours TOPS! Sperm live for 3(more common)-7 days! Once the egg dies your body starts to shed the thick lining of the uterus that was prepared for the fertilized egg to implant into. But because it didn't get fertilized, you get your period... After you have your period, your body will start producing hormones to get ready for the next ovulation. (Estrogen, progesterone) in the middle of your cycle, 14 days commonly after period your body will produce what's called a LH surge (another hormone) this is when the follicle releases the egg. Luteal hormone is what ovulation test pick up. :)

@keepingupwithhenry no definitely not, although some can ovulate on their period it's not likely but possible. You know when you ovulate by taking your basal body temp every day even on your period you'll get a feel of what's normal for you I gave you the example of mine 97.6 was my norm, then after your period you continue do this every morning before you do anything( pee, shower, drink anything ) you'll see a spike and it'll be noticable it'll be an entire degree above your normal temp and that's when your ovary has release the egg, or you can get Ovulation predictors in bulk and test everyday the day after your period (just like a pregnancy test it'll show two lines when it's releasing) some say the lines have to be darker than the control like but my specialist said thats not true if you see a second line have sex and keep going.

That makes so much sense @halsey11 so you can't get pregnant if an egg doesn't drop?

Actually, ovulation occurs before the period. You have a period because when you ovulated the egg didn't get fertilized. So the bleeding during your period is flushing out the egg(ovulation). That's how you get pregnant on accident right after you have a baby. Because you don't know your cycle has returned yet. You ovulated, then you got your period. Or you ovulated, got pregnant and didn't get a period.

How do you know when you're ovulating? I thought it was more possible to get pregnant while on your period @hermommy

@keepingupwithhenry yes, you can get pregnant at any time sometimes your body will release an egg and you won't know hence how some get pregnant off of one night stands but it is more likely when you ovulate to get pregnant. Normally a specialist will tell you or atleast mine did the have sex every 2/3 days but to make sure you have sex at least 2 days before and the day of that you ovulate bevause sperm depending on your CM can live a good while, :)

So you can get pregnant anytime, but it's more likely while you're ovulating @hermommy?

ovulation can happen a week to two weeks after your period, ovulation is when your ovary releases an egg or eggs in some cases. It can be tracked by taking your basal body temp ( it'll jump a degree) say your normal temp is 97.6 it'll jump to 98.6/7, you can also use ovulation sticks and tell that way. Ovulation normally last about 24 hours.

ovulation normally happens about a week after your period is over. I tracked mine by a calendar that's how I got pregnant

Short Luteal Phase?

I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.
