Is he neutered? Male dogs also can like our female smell because they're males. It's more common in intact males, but ones that have been fixed can do it also.. Just like sometimes female dogs do it. Just a weird off thing dogs do..

They sense it but not because of your underwear. My male dog sleeps with me now and my female lays next to me. My male dog has always chewed my underwear, clean or dirty lol @cjones

My dog did that for a good year, sometimes it's a dominance thing. She considered herself 'higher in the pack' than me.
