having contractions 6 mins apart. how long are they supposed to last?

I'm trying to remember If my doctor said 2 minutes long and every 5 minutes apart . I could be totally wrong so don't quote me.

1 min long, for a hour at 5-6 mins apart. you should call L&D

I'm gonna time them for an hour then call l&d they're lasting like 1 to 2mins. trying to let my husband finish painting the baby's new room lol
