I have a question: since my baby isn't waking up in the middle of the night anymore my milk is being wasted. It's been out for 8-9 hours at room temp., can I put it in the fridge now since I didn't use it?
@brwneydgirly25, thank you! I go by the room temp & warm room guidelines
@mybabyloves, i dont put them in the freezer either I know I'll use the milk soon or even the next few days. Too much of a hassle waiting to thaw it out for a hungry baby that's impatient I wouldn't recommend freezing it either
I wouldn't put it in the freezer. I always put it straight in the fridge after my kids went to bed for the night
I think everyone gives a different number. Every lactation consultant I've ever spoken with has told me up to two hours, but I've heard different from other people. Personally I would just toss that milk, and any milk that's been sitting out more than two hours, but that's just me.
@forever223, ive been told up to 6 hours and ive fed her my milk at the 6 hour mark and she's been fine. She doesn't touch the milk before hand I know once she touches it it's only about an hour or less that they can drink it
Pumped milk should only stay out for up to two hours before you should toss it to be safe. Bacteria starts growing fairly quickly and you don't want to feed your baby rotten milk. You're worried about wasting it keep a cup of ice in your room to place the pumped milk in.
@alexislopez, I know she usually drinks before 6 hours but she sleeps through the whole night now
I meant fridge lol
