As I'm about to enter my second trimester I realized many people seem to not know how to act around pregnant women. In an effort to help those around me, as more and more of our friends get pregnant, I've created a basic guide with the top 10 most annoying things I've encountered so far. Feel free to share this if you know anybody who may need a refresher course in manners. 😊

Pregnancy Etiquette: the beginners guide for asinine people.

1) Know your place-- It's not your responsibility to share the news. It's not your pregnancy. Let the parents share their news before you go around telling the whole world.

2) Bodily comments-- Not appreciated. When has it ever been appropriate to comment on someone's body? I'm growing a human. My body is going to change. Don't make me hate my stretching skin while I'm creating a life.

3) TOUCHING! -- Ask permission. Not everyone likes their stomach being rubbed like a buddha belly.

4) "Was it an accident?" or "I bet you were so scared!" --Just because I'm young doesn't mean it wasn't planned. Chances are I'm further in life than you anyways so move along.

5) "So how'd you get pregnant exactly?" -- Are you kidding me? Let's take you back to 5th grade when boys and girls were separated and try to catch you up to speed on how this works. Or do you just think that I haven't actually visited my husband in 6 months? They're both equally as ignorant.

6) Unsolicited opinions and advice-- Every pregnancy is different. Every baby is different. I'm going to do what works for me and MY baby.

7) "Are you sure you can do that?" "Are you sure you can eat that?" "I don't think you should be doing that." -- Are you my doctor? No. Then I don't think you should still be talking.

8) "You're only "so many" weeks along, stop complaining- it just gets worse." -- That's great! I look forward to it. But just because I'm not as far along as some people doesn't mean my pregnancy symptoms are any less real.

9) "I'm waiting because I want to do the motherhood thing the right way." -- How do you do a pregnancy wrong exactly? Don't belittle others because they don't do things "your way". Single moms, adoptive moms, foster moms, IVF moms, teen moms (etc.) are all MOMS. There's no "right" way to do this.

10) "Oh, that's what you're naming your baby? Ew, I don't like that name because *insert irrelevant reason here*" -- WHO CARES WHAT YOU DON'T LIKE. Once again this is MY baby. If you want to name a baby so badly then you carry a human for 40 weeks and then labor and deliver yourself.

I hope this helps 👌 We can all take steps to make the world a more educated place.

Yes! Especially Number 1! I told my best friend I was pregnant when I was only about 6 weeks and he told my entire school 😑 so I ha messages upon messages asking if it was true and I had to tell everyone no that it was just some rumor. I didn't want the word to spread too early because I had a fear of miscarrying. Once I was ready, I made the announcement lol
