I'm having a bad day. My family is having a hard time dealing with my son who is autistic (high functioning). I'm really having a hard time wondering why it's so hard for them to understand that he's not this way bc he wants to be nor is it his fault. I just want him to be accepted by his loved ones, he'll be judged enough by outsiders. He doesn't need it from his family members. I just don't feel like I need to be worried about this at 6 months pregnant. Then that brings me to think what if Marleigh is diagnosed with autism? How will they deal with both my children having it? Kind words would be nice I'm just sad for my son. Some people will never get it. 😥😓😢

some people will never understand or be accepting and it is heart breaking. I work with adults with disabilities and I love it they all have a special place in my heart. Just do the best you can do and dont give up. Try to educate your family and help them understand autism.

I try but educating and providing them ways to educate themselves (websites, books, support groups) isn't working. I feel as though Incan only do so much by offering them the help. The rest is up to them. @rhia

My younger brother has a disability and most of our family don't accept it. We tend to stay away because of the negative comments. He seems to be ok without them in his life because he has some family that does accept him.

Exactly. I'm beginning to think that what I'm going to do. We'll just live in our little bubble.

Don't focus so much on pushing someone to understand what is autism is or what it's like to be in your shoes. Look I would be honest with your family and explain how much this bothers you that they can't just accept the situation and support you and your son, whoever can understand will be there for you. And who ever isn't, you gotta keep move forward positive for your son.

Well I'm not really pushing them but when people openly talk smack about my son it becomes a problem for me. And being that we were pretty close I expect everyone to educate themselves so if I ever needed them to step in for me which will probably be when I have his sister they'd be fit to keep him. I also feel like we all need to be on one accord with helping him reach milestones and goals that are set for him. It takes an army....

I'm sorry, I didn't mean pushing it on them, it wasn't in a rude way. But You're doing the right thing by teaching your family, I know it's frustrating repeating yourself but just continue showing them, I'm sure they will come around. How old is your son?

You're fine. It's extremely frustrating and I just feel like because he can't speak up for himself I have to do that for him as his mom you know. He's 4 he'll be 5 on 10/11.

I'm having this issue too. My family thinks it's all in my head and there's nothing wrong with her. It is so frustrating! I've had a pretty craptastic day myself!
